The Marauders are here!

I was only going to post one of Mantic’s Marauders up, but as i’ve got 5 done I thought I would post a group shot. These are painted for gaming using Golem’s techniques which I have to say cut down on painting time no end.
Anyway less waffling! Here they are, enjoy!

Warpath Open Day

Had a great time this Saturday just gone at Mantic Towers in Nottingham for the Warpath Open Day. Got to say a big thank you to everyone involved in making it such a great event to attend.
Golem Painting Studios held a great painting seminar which has helped me pick up a few speed painting techniques as well as get me to hold my brush properly again! When I get chance i’ll post some pictures up of the Marauders me and Kate painted. Just to prove the technique works heres a Forge Father I knocked out in under 20 mins:

Hear the one about the Space Dwarf getting hammered? Nope, me neither!

I’m quite happy with how he turned out.
Now back onto the Open day, we got to see some amazing new minis as well as the display minis and I can wholeheartedly say that the Corporation troopers will be awesome after seeing the pictures of them, as will the Goblins! When I saw the Goblins I kind of went all high pitched giving Ronnie Renton a bit of a laugh :D
Got to see the master casts of the Forge Father BFG weapons and i’ll be picking up one or two of those to use with my Forge Fathers no doubt.
I also got to have a game of Warpath with Chris “Curis” Webb from Ninjabread with me as the Forge Fathers (Yes I strayed from the greenskins!) and Curis as the Orx Marauders. If you check out his blog you can guess who won ;)
Even though we had to leave on an emergency we had a great time, and hopefully with everything going well we should be at the next one!

Thanks Mantic, Golem, All the Pathfinders, Chris and most of all Kate for putting up with me on the day!

So that’s how many?

Well i’ve finally done it, I finally painted my big 40k Ork boy unit. Although I’ve only done 20 of them at the moment that is more than enough for now. To be honest it was the painting of that unit that started my slide away from wanting to paint, i’d look at the mass of minis and dread would fill me. Well they are out of the way and i’m going to move onto finishing the Assault on Black Reach Ork Boss I started before we moved, I may even finish the Deff Dred I started too…well maybe ;)

I’m still selling stuff on Ebay now under the name of goblin_ink, so if you search for that name you should find some stuff for sale, if not check back a day or so later.

Over on Frothers, Dags is organising the yearly charity drive for Multiple Sclerosis and Cancer Research. The freebie figure this year is called “Sascha” and they are down to the last 20 minis available so if you would like one please donate! You can donate by these links below:

MS Society: http://www.justgiving.com/frothers1

Cancer Research: http://www.justgiving.com/Frothers2

No matter what your feelings on the subject of Frothers is, you have to give them credit for being generous.

Off you go little ones!

Just a quick post to say that i’ve added a new gallery for “museum” pieces such as my Warhammer Goblins, which you can see in the new gallery and to say that one of the Regiments is currently on sale on ebay.
It’s these little fellows and they need a new home:

Watch out for the arrows...

Sadly i’m parting with my Orcs and Goblins from both the 1980′s and the more modern ones as I no longer play Warhammer.
Please do take a look at the auction and bid/buy if you like they are a decent unit that have won many a battle honour!

Review: Dust Tactics Revised Core Set

I’ve been “umming” and “ahhhing” about getting Dust Tactics since its release and now we have a new revised edition with all new miniatures and floor plans, so I decided to pick it up.

Dust Tactics

On unboxing I was presented firstly with 2 fold out “poster” floor plans which are the playing area, I must admit i’m not a huge fan of poster style playing areas and would have prefered card boards. The design of the floor plans though are very nice and clear to understand for gaming. Next out of the box was the rules and campaing setting called “Victory Bridge”. The rulebook is clear, well laid out and very easy to understand. In fact the game is nowhere near as complicated as it could have been. Both books are in a “LP” size format (for those of you too young to know what an LP is, it is one of those big CDs :D ) and full colour.
Game content wise you get card terrain markers, unit cards, 2 tank traps and 2 crates, 6 special dice and a whole heap of minis. This is what i’m most interested in.
You get 30 miniatures in the box, all are new to this set and have yet to see a general release outside of it. The quality of detail is very good although one downside is when I removed the troopers from the containing small boxes some had bent weapons, these were sorted out by holding the minis over a steaming kettle and then pinching the weapon back to shape. The mechs are great, especially the axis walker that reminds me of a German WW2 armoured transport. The Allied walker looks like it is walking on tiptoes but the overall design is different to other mechs out there (eg. Gear Krieg, Secrets of the Third Reich).
The games strength is in its simple gameplay, with initiative being rolled for each turn then unit activation. Unlike the standard YGIG (You Go I Go) games each side takes turns in activating units, and the opponent can also attempt react in your activation so the game has a more realistic feel. Initiative and all other rolls are worked out using the special dice which are six sided with 2 target symbols.

I’ve played the first two “Victory Bridge” scenarios with my friend Dan and they have played fast and fun with no arguments on rules, everything is made simple so theres no need for bickering as in some systems. So after 2 games am I hooked? The answer is: Yes! and a resounding one at that. I’ve already purchased both an axis and ally medium mech to use and trully am looking forward to another game.

Playability: 9
Looks: 9
Value: 8
Longevity: 8
Overall: 8.5

Getting back on the bike again!

Hiya all, the website seems to be sorted and back to working health. So I thought i’d share a w.i.p with you all to show that i’ve once again picked up a brush in anger :)

It's not the Incredible Hulk!

I used the Ork skin spray from Army Painter which I brought along with some of the new Mantic Kings of War Orc Gore Riders (which are top notch minis for the price IMHO). I used Citadel Thraka Green and Badab Black mixed 50/50 to make deep shading then used Vallejo Model color medium olive to start highlighting. I added small bits of Vallejo Model Color Golden Yellow upto the final highlight. This time rather than going for a realistic gradient I wanted to define the muscles with lines to make them stand out more. I think it works on the arm and i’ll crack on with the rest of him soon, along with some Mantic Orcs for fun.

As always thanks for reading!

Finally! We are in!

That’s right we have finally got our new home sorted and i’m now getting my “man-cave” in order to begin doing hobby and Art related stuff. It’s a huge relief as we thought that it wasn’t going to happen due to solicitors and banks dragging their feet.
I’ve got an urge to get my Uncharted Seas Orc fleet done, then I really want to get my Secrets of the Third Reich Germans done! Then my Orks for 40k…No! My Necromunda stuff! Egads! Too much stuff to do!
